| Name: | Doctor William Birkin |
|---|
William Birkin, Husband, Father, and psychotic madman was born on October 16th, 1962 to Paul and Eileen Birkin. A relatively uneventful childhood in and around Cambridge, William soon revealed that he was "special" in reguards to the other children. Paul, a Psychology professor, subjected his son to several grueling tests, along with his colleagues. William's IQ scored off the charts, and his overjoyed parents soon rushed him into high school where he excelled-despite being the enemy of a good chunk of his peers. He spent several afternoons of his pre-teen years in trash cans.
While hated by his peergroup, William was the subject of constant praise from his family and his father's colleagues. He developed an overwhelming sense of self importance, coupled with a desire to please those who he considered superior. When he was accepted into Cambridge at 13, he rejoiced. Now the envy of his colleagues, William dove into his work-earning doctorates in Virology and Genetics with a speed that surprised his professors. He grew manic, annoying his roommates by staying up all night with his textbooks and his projects. A constant figure around the labs-visitors often mistook him for a ghost.
He left before completing his Genetics degree to take a position with the Umbrella Corporation after a stirring recruitment speech from one Ozwell E. Spencer and James Marcus-who promised to continue William's education. Excited, William Eagerly headed off to Umbrella's training facility where he was groomed by the executives of the corporation. Unfortunately this encouraged his reclusive nature, and he took to haunting the labs once again until he-for the first time in a long time-made a friend.
Albert Wesker and William Birkin had alot in common, Ambition being first and foremost. When the order came down from Spencer that William was to "Continue" Marcus's research at any cost, it was Albert signed the order for marcus's execution, but it was Birkin who gave them Marcus's exact location and ensured that his mentor would be in the lab at the time required.
Once Marcus was out of the way they shut down the training center. Umbrella White transferred the two up-and-coming scientists to the Arklay Facility, putting them in charge of a large group of scientists and the main T-Virus Project. All went well until the news of a new wunderkind that had become the apple of the board of director's collective eye-
Alexia Ashford.
Birkin had never delt well with competition, and Alexia's presence and her position as a researcher at the age of twelve, threw him into a panic. He went through test-subjects like toilet paper-not eating or sleeping for days. His fellow researchers began to worry, but those who interferred soon found themselves participating unwillingly. The only one who he found remotely useful was Annette-who did whatever he asked. His childish behavior ended two years later when Alexia Ashford "died" and he was once again the prodigy that everyone looked up to. He had formulated the core of his G-Virus research by that time, in addition to the beginnings of the Nemesis Project. He had also married Annette and had a two-year old daughter named Sherry.
People in power don't last long, and as the years progressed and William grew older he became increasingly aware of the Board's need for constant results. When he protested, they reminded William pointedly of what had happened to his mentor. Those who do not deliver are of no use to anyone, especially the Umbrella Corporation. The incident at the mansion and the training facility stepped up Umbrella's Timetable, and William arranged for protection with Brian Irons.
His efforts proved fruitless however, as Umbrella sent a team led by their infamous agent "Hunk" to collect the sample. Shot multiple times, Birkin swore that Umbrella would never get their hands on his life's work, the culmination of the years of torture that he'd endured and the devotion that he'd given them. He injected the G-Virus into his own body, staving off death-but turning into a horrific monster in the process.
Personality
Annoyed Easily, Birkin's chief topic of discussion is work and he won't deveate from it. Swearing to develop his family life once the G-Virus synthesis was completed, Birkin does not love or care easily. He tolerates Annette because she follows him blindly, but Sherry is less then a speck on his personal radar.
Personally, Birkin is excessively paranoid. He learned early on that the simplest way to get what he wanted was to please whoever was in power. Upsets in the power structure, or at least the power structure as he believes it-throw him for a loop. He becomes immature and self-centered, ignoring everyone else except for his own wants and needs. Aggressive, he will not hesitate to damage individuals if people cross him in this state.
Birkin is highly competitive. In what little downtime he has (He spends most of it working) He tends to work puzzles compulsively (He's particularly fond of Rubix cubes) He speaks German and French Fluently-and can often be seen muttering to himself in said languages.
Birkin has enough social skills to succeed, but he regards strangers as suspicious, and useless if they can't offer him assistance or anything that he wants. Kindness and unwarranted affection are met with scorn and mockery, although if you're well known he'll do his best to fumble toward something of a relationship.
